The person behind the work

About me

I am Baskar Manimegalai, a photographer, documentary filmmaker and educator.

I live in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, and work across landscapes and communities.

My work begins in the field, with people, places and the questions they raise.

A background in geography shapes how I read land, climate and everyday life.

More about me

I photograph forests, coasts, birds and the lives that belong to them.

Travel is a way of paying attention and learning to see differently.

My documentaries follow ecological change, livelihoods and community knowledge.

Through Thisai Creations, I bring those encounters into film and publishing.

I co-host Raattai Media, a Tamil podcast for long conversations.

We explore politics, economics, ecology, culture and the ideas shaping society.

My policy work asks how public decisions affect people and the living world.

I write in Tamil and English, drawing on field experience and careful reading.

I facilitate courses on early Buddhist texts and their place in everyday life.

My teaching brings philosophy, science and personal enquiry into conversation.

I also founded Aambal, an initiative rooted in everyday care.

Photography, writing, film and teaching are how I share what I continue to learn.
